As May draws to a merciful close, the world seems determined to audition for the apocalypse: Israel is playing medieval real-estate agent in Lebanon, football fans in France have redefined 'European competition' as a contact sport with the gendarmerie, and Japan is insisting it isn't remilitarising whilst pointing a very large stick at China's 'huge arsenal'. Down Under, the Defence Minister has declared the seabed a battlefield—presumably because we hadn't quite ruined the surface enough yet—while Colombia votes on whether to embrace Trumpism or stick with Petro. It’s a thoroughly depressing menu of conflict, riots, and political farce, with only the WHO desperately trying to stop a virus from winning the 'most dangerous entity' award.

📜 Lyrics 📜
[Verse 1]
They seized a castle in the Lebanon hills
With all the subtlety of iron drills
The P.M. calls it a decisive shift
A feudal trophy for a modern gift
We're storming keeps with drones and guided missiles
While history folds us in its ancient bristles
From crusader ghosts to the U.N. seat
The boots are marching to the same old beat
[Pre-Chorus]
And on the telly, tribalism's rage
Turns Paris streets into a battle stage
Eight hundred arrested in the neon light
Because their team lost on a Tuesday night
[Chorus]
It's progress, darling, can't you see?
We're colonising history
From mountain peaks to ocean floor
We've seen it all, seen it before
The tech gets smart, the minds get dull
We're charging headfirst towards the null
Progress, darling, don't look back
We're on the glory train to lack
[Verse 2]
Japan's Defence Minister says trust him now
Denying arrows on the military bow
While China counts its secrets in the dark
And seabeds turn to battlefields and mark
Australia sends the drones beneath the wave
A quiet death is what the future gave
The Pacific widens with every索赔
But everybody's pointing fingers at them
[Bridge]
In Dublin town, a man stopped breathing
The same old shame, the same old seething
They say that times have moved ahead
But justice finds its rightful dead
Myanmar bleeds in silence now
The cameras turned away somehow
Congo fights a virus and a lie
While Colombia waits to vote or die
[Guitar Solo]
[Chorus]
It's progress, darling, can't you see?
We're colonising history
From mountain peaks to ocean floor
We've seen it all, seen it before
The tech gets smart, the minds get dull
We're charging headfirst towards the null
Progress, darling, don't look back
We're on the glory train to lack
[Outro]
The castle stands, the ocean hums
The crowd smashes cars and chews its thumbs
Progress, progress, read the news
We've nothing left but left to lose
[Spoken] Same as it ever was
Progress
