One might have hoped for a quiet Sunday perusing the papers, but the world appears determined to implode with all the grace of a disturbed wasps' nest. From the White House to the coal mines of Shanxi, via the muddy slopes of a flooded China and the bomb-cratered railways of Pakistan, humanity is sticking doggedly to its favourite pastime: organised self-destruction. The Americans have paused selling umbrellas to Taiwan to concentrate on their Persian firework display, while the Russians are testing hypersonic missiles and the UN is busy passing strongly worded notes about the weather. Itβs enough to drive one to drink, assuming one can afford the groceries amidst the twenty-thousand odd attacks on the global pantry.

π Lyrics π
[Verse 1]
Near the White House gates, the bullets fly
A suspect cut down beneath the D.C. sky
One bystander bleeds on hallowed ground
While the news crews spin the merry-go-round
In Pakistan, the rails are stained with red
A train home for Eid, the mourning for the dead
The separatists sing their violent hymn
Another tragedy in a world growing dim
[Pre-Chorus]
The Oreshnik flies at hypersonic speed
A calculated kill, a violent creed
Four lives erased in a Ukrainian dawn
While the diplomats talk and the people mourn
[Chorus]
Oh, the fire's getting closer now
The earth is crumbling beneath the plough
The water's rising to claim the town
And the resolution's handed down!
A hundred and forty-one states agree
To write a new chapter for history
But the ink is dry and the page is bare
There's no salvation found in prayer!
[Verse 2]
In the Liushenyu mine, the gas ignited
Eighty-two souls, uninvited
The worst in a decade, the headlines say
While the floods wash twelve more away
The south is drowning in the heavy rain
And hunger is the weapon, the hidden chain
Twenty thousand attacks on the food we eat
Starvation's the general who never retreats
[Bridge]
[Hammond B3 Organ Swell]
[Blast Beat Drumming]
There's a pause in the sale, fourteen billion in gold
The arms for Taiwan are bought and sold
Acting Secretary Cao says the delay is right
We need the bombs for the Iranian fight
"Epic Fury" takes precedence now
Taipei, you've been ghosted, take a bow
The American umbrella has a hole in the seam
It's all just a geopolitical dream!
[Guitar Solo]
[Chorus]
Oh, the fire's getting closer now
The earth is crumbling beneath the plough
The water's rising to claim the town
And the resolution's handed down!
A hundred and forty-one states agree
To write a new chapter for history
But the ink is dry and the page is bare
There's no one left to even care!
[Outro]
The resolution passed!
[Choir] The resolution passed!
But the die is cast!
[Choir] The die is cast!
Read the chapter!
[Choir] Read the chapter!
No one's reading...
[Chains & Anvil FX fade to silence]
